Built for CGSL Players

Heat Wave is CGSL's supplemental club program — designed for players who want more development and more competition without leaving the league or jumping into full-blown travel ball. It's club softball with a foot still in rec: lower cost, lower commitment than most clubs, and built around the players you already see at Tumbleweed every Saturday.

This is our first full year of Heat Wave. We're starting deliberately — with one confirmed division for 2026-2027 and the door open for more if interest and coaching support them.

Registering does not guarantee placement nor tryout. Tryouts and Team formation will occur if interest for a division is great enough and coaching is available.

Who Heat Wave is for

Heat Wave is for players who want extra reps, extra games, and a step up in competition while still committing to CGSL rec. Every Heat Wave player plays rec. Heat Wave is supplemental, not separate.

If your daughter is loving rec, wants to push her skills, isn't ready (or doesn't want) the time and travel commitment of a club program — Heat Wave is the on-ramp.

What's offered for 2026-2027

  • 14u: Confirmed. Heat Wave is fielding a 14u team this year.

  • Other age divisions: Possible. We'll field additional Heat Wave teams in other age groups based on player interest and coach availability. If your daughter is interested in Heat Wave, fill out the registration — the more interest, the more likely a team forms.

How the season works

During CGSL rec seasons (Fall and Spring):

  • One additional Heat Wave practice per week beyond rec, most held at Tumbleweed

  • Sparse tournament play — a few weekends spread across the season

Between rec seasons (off-season windows):

  • Two or more Heat Wave practices per week

  • One to two tournaments per month

  • Practice locations vary based on Chandler field availability — communicated to families ahead of each off-season window

Cost

Heat Wave is intentionally low-cost. We lean hard on fundraising to cover team expenses — equipment, tournament entry fees, field/facility rentals, private group instruction. Registration cost will cover jerseys, socks, visors, belts, and insurance for the season. 

What families pay directly:

  • A modest player registration fee

  • Each player's individual tournament entry portion as tournaments come up

  • Pants for player

What we don't ask families to pay for:

  • Travel outside Arizona, unless the team agrees as a group

Tryouts

Tryout dates and location will be announced ahead of each season. Players must be currently registered for CGSL rec to try out for Heat Wave. Failure to play in the rec season will result in the removal from the Heat Wave Team.
